NY-16: Jewish Democratic group backs George Latimer over Rep. Jamaal Bowman

A prominent national Jewish Democratic group Thursday endorsed Westchester County Executive George Latimer’s primary challenge to Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a key critic of Israel and the war in Gaza.

The Jewish Democratic Council of America cites Latimer’s “decades of support for the Jewish community and allyship” on a variety of liberal causes as well as support for Israel in backing him for the Democratic nomination in Bowman’s 16th District.

“George Latimer resolutely stands behind our community when challenging moments arise, including the current one,” said Susie Stern, the group’s chairwoman.

The group avoided mentioning Bowman, who has been harsh critic of Israel and has called for an end to the Gaza war and negotiations for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It was at a rally back in November, but for whatever reason the video just started circulating around recently.

In the weeks after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, Rep. Jamaal Bowman not only publicly cast doubt on reports that Israeli women were raped, but also called those accusations “propaganda.”

“There was propaganda used in the beginning of the siege,” Bowman (D-N.Y.) told a Nov. 17 rally of about 50 pro-Palestinian protesters in Westchester, according to a post on TikTok reviewed by POLITICO. “There’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or raped women. But they still keep using that lie [for] propaganda.”

Asked about those remarks on Thursday outside the House floor, Bowman declined to talk about them on the record.

“I’m focused on my votes and other things. I’m not talking,” he said. When asked if he still doubted those claims, he added: “I’m not talking about that now. My team will get back to you.”

Just primary him. Our party can do a lot better.

Why would any politician embrace Norman Finklestein? His hatred and vitriol for Israel is so extreme and unparalleled that his own mother disowned him.

It also is rather disgraceful to be a man who proves those saying #MeTooUnlessYourAJew are correct.
And then only backtracking after the UN issues a report that there is evidence of widespread sexual violence.

I hope he loses his primary. Democrats can do better.
