Through the looking glass

I just can't wrap my head around the thinking of many American voters who support Trump.

How is it that a large portion of working, middle-class Americans, many members labor unions, can support and identify with a spoiled, crass, arrogant New Yorker who never did a real day's work in his life? Who stiffed skilled tradesmen and insulted his employees?

How is that a large portion of Veterans support a lying draft dodger, who insults real heroes and POWs. Who displays disrespect to fallen heroes and soldiers?

A large portion of Christians support an adulterer and liar. Who disdains the very foundation of Christianity, which is humility, tolerance, charity and love of your fellow man?

Now, to see polls that indicate that Trump may receive more votes from Blacks and Hispanics than any Republican Presidential candidate in 60 years, even though he is the most racist candidate from either party who received a nomination.

Trump gets endorsed by people who he has insulted. not only personally, but publicly, including their spouses, mothers and fathers.

I'm sorry. This is like a modern-day version of the invasion of the body snatchers or Alice in Wonderland. A cult that I don't understand and never will.

he really is; they invent a whole new persona of a strong powerful warrior for the poor republicans that are not getting their due because of the woke crowd.

Simple as that. Some members of my immediate family will gripe ad nauseum how nobody ever gave them a handout. Seriously? Your Mom, Dad and Stepmom spent thousands of dollars on maternity clothes, infant formula, diapers, vacations, etc. You did it on your own, huh? We did it because we love you and we could help.

I think some of my kin have something seriously wrong with them that goes beyond Trump. But by God ‘Merica. Come and take it. Okay.

Our oldest grandson was going on and on the other day about how Texas needs to secede. My husband asked him if he knew how many military bases are in Texas. I dunno know. Fifteen. We are already semi occupied by Federal forces. He told my grandson that if war comes to Texas everything our grandson knew and loved would be gone when it was over. Open mouths and dead silence.

The two of us push back whenever we can. I think that’s all you can do.

there are a certain number of misogynists in every ethnic category. The Trump support among minorities seems to be coming far more from men than from women.

How in the world does Trump convince people he is one of them? I don’t have an answer for that.

Where does Trump stand with Black voters? What the polls show

Feb 29, 2024 · The USA TODAY/Suffolk poll from January found that Trump’s support among Black voters has stayed the same at 12%.

He validates their hatred. Evangelicals would say to themselves that he is a flawed arm of god who will usher in a holy America. Deep down - he validates their deep seated hatred of everyone and everything they see is wrong with America.

It's a pretty simple explanation but sometimes those are the best explanations. Trump is the personification of anger and hatred. He makes it OK for his supporters to express their feelings and they aren't holding back.

They are petty, arrogant, full of self-hatred, full of racism (acknowledged or hidden), ignorant and/or stupid, jealous of those who have past them in success, afraid of losing their white status to black and brown people who may be their boss who can fire them, don't have a clue what's going on around them locally, regionally, state-wise, nationally, and internationally (clueless). These pathetic and dangerous creatures want to be recognized as being in charge of those who are superior to them -- and Trump promises to put them there. It was the same for the nascent Nazi Party. Taking men without jobs and status but having enough energy for violence to rise above their family and neighbors by having a leader who would put their adversaries in their "rightful place". It's more than more money; it's about status and power. They can't do this by themselves. They can put up with perceived foibles of Trump as long as they believe (not necessarily deliver) he will give them what they crave.

I'm going to dig out my social psychology textbook and read up more about this.

are folks making $50K-55K a year with shitty healthcare and retirement plans, who have been programmed to identify Americans making $52K-57K, with decent healthcare and pension plans, as their enemy.
