A Christian magazine warns that homosexuality is caused by sex with succubi -- and that's just the beginning
BY TANA GANEVA, ALTERNET
The reigning scientific consensus on sexual orientation is that its an inherited, biological trait, but thats just because scientists dont know how to party. A far sexier explanation has been offered up by Christian magazine Charisma, which conducted its own investigation into the origins of homosexuality to reveal the real culprit: sex with demons.
Can demons engage in sexual behaviors with humans? the magazine asks. Why yes, they can! At least according to the articles primary source, a former stripper-turned-ministry leader named Contessa Adams. Adams shares her decades-long struggle with demon sex, sparing no horrible, sexy detail:
These spiritual rapists, as Adams describes them in her book, Consequences, often prey on people by performing sexual acts through nightmares and erotic dreams. Some people become so dependent upon these demonic experiences that they actually look forward to them.
Anybody that has been attacked by them will tell you theyre worried [that] they could not find that pleasure with mortal people, says Adams, who claims she was once possessed by sexual demons.
The two most identifiable sexual demons are the incubus, which is a male sexual demon that traditionally assaults women, and the succubus, which is a female sexual demon that assaults men. Sometimes they also lure people into homosexual behavior.

(111,385 posts)Actually the incubus and succubus were created to explain away sex dreaming. Obviously no moral religious person would ever allow himself to think about that, so there must be some kind of demon attacking him when he's asleep and vulnerable!
And of course, if the dream was a "wet" one, forgiveness had to be begged.
I don't know why Christianity turned into such a sex phobic cult but somewhere along the line, it took a very wrong turn and did.

(40,416 posts)I do not think this statement is accurate. I am no expert, but the way I understand it it may not be genes at all, not genetic, but more related to embryology. I believe the correct term Is congenital, which does not necessarily mean genetic inheritance.
Just a quibble on terminology, but I think a very important distinction.
I do wish people writing articles on science would at least learn the terminology. Words meanings matter in science.
Although there is still dispite, gender expression is almost certainly not inherited through some simple gene expression.

You are saying I am a congential DEFECT?

(10,437 posts)But it's almost Poe-like in telling the difference between real and feigned outrage on DU these days. There probably really are people who believe all congenital conditions are defects.
longship
(40,416 posts)Which says absolutely nothing about defect.
There are many congenital traits in all life on earth.
Look up the fucking word before you go off on me. My post was about the known science, and how the OP article has it wrong that LGBT is inherited, not about any claim for defect.
Gees!
Again! Look up "congenital" and you'll see what I was attempting to say.
Thanks for your response.
dmallind
(10,437 posts)What the fuck did *I* do but make the same fucking point, better and earlier than you just did?
Again! Look up the words "reply to" and you'll understand.
longship
(40,416 posts)And who said it was, to use your word, a "defect"? I certainly would not. I believe you were the one to introduce the word.
My quibble was that the article stated that homosexuality was inherited, which no science is saying is true.
So lighten up my friend.
Congenital does not necessarily mean inherited. Look it up. What science does say about homosexuality is that it is decidedly not a choice.
But there is substantive evidence that it is congenital. Whether that is genetic has not been determined, AFAIK. Data indicates rather strongly that it is not genetic, but related to embryology. That's within the perview of congenital.
I am using subtle scientific language here. The whole point of my post was to bring rationality to the dialog. Please understand that distinction.
Thanks much.
dbackjon
(6,578 posts)Genetic with possibly some embronic influences.
Can you link your studies?
longship
(40,416 posts)From reliable sources, like SGU, and other science and Skeptical blogs. They would have links to sources. Apparently the science is still fuzzy on precisely what the biological influences are, which is why I deliberately used the more loosely interpreted term "congenital".
AFAIK, the thinking is that it may be linked to developmental embryology, which does not have to have genetic components.
I am interested but I am not up to date on it, only what I read on the science blogs. Unfortunately, I have no access to the science literature sites to do a search. But I am sure that there's a lot out there.
My field is physics and math, so I am way out of my domain here. My posts are my reading of what's been reported by informed science people in the disciplines.

(5,662 posts)Here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraternal_birth_order_and_male_sexual_orientation
Links to several studies that suggest having a large number of older brothers increases the odds of later sons being gay due to possibly an immune response in the mother's uterus.
I've seen other studies that hypothesize that nature selects for this phenomenon because after having several sons to carry on the genes, it's beneficial to have additional sons who can help hunt and raise the kids but who won't have biological kids of their own and raise the population so quickly beyond what the environment can support.
Obviously all still just theories but I think it is an interesting phenomenon and explanation.

(40,416 posts)The sole purpose of my post here was to call out some particularly bad science writing which claims -- in the first paragraph -- that science has shown homosexuality is inherited.
That is clearly wrong!
I apologize if I did not make my post very clear. My purpose was to clarify that science does not have a clear indication on LGBT. I was debunking the article in the OP, which AFAIK, is categorically wrong.
Science studies this stuff because it is interesting. Homosexuality is common throughout many, many fauna including our closest primate cousins. It seems that only humans revile it, something I am decidedly not doing here.
The reviling of LGBT may be unique in the animal kingdom to humans. Of course human scientists are going to study it.

(61,729 posts)Things are better on DU now, but for a long time there was a great deal of homophobia here, and some of us are a little sensitive. It wasn't clear to me what you were saying, so I appreciate your polite follow-up post.
longship
(40,416 posts)I sometimes come off brashly when my intent is to be merely direct.
The science of LGBT is interesting, especially since there are a whole lot of people saying it is a choice, which the science clearly debunks. The only way us reasonable people can defend our social positions is to defend the science, whatever it states.
Nature is what nature is. The universe is what the universe is. They are the final arbiters in just about everything.
Thanks much for your response.

(3,596 posts)their pre-occupation with the female uterus and what homosexual men do with one another.
They want to ensure any fetus in the uterus is brought to term regardless of the circumstances of fertilization. In other words mandate a woman give birth to a child even if that child is the result of incest, rape or could result in the death of the mother or if the fetus is known to have serious debilitating features.
Then they are so worried about a man masturbating another man or performing fellatio on another man or engaging in sodomy on another man. What is the source of this perversion?
They rarely, if at all, talk about woman-on-woman sex which suggests this isn't about homosexual behavior. This is about how a "man" should behave. He should dominate his woman, "fuck" her hard and deep and impregnate her. If a man isn't doing that he isn't a man.
