(53,661 posts)And it is the group of people that the GOP has long had their sights aimed on eliminating from the population.
As Bernie Sanders has said, Ryan's proposed Medicaid cuts would be a 'death sentence' for many Americans:
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said on Monday's The Ed Show that cuts to Medicaid would mean a "death sentence for a whole lot of people all over this country."
"Let's be very clear, a lot of people don't understand this," he said, "This year alone, we're going to be losing 45,000 people who die because they don't get to a doctor when they should. If Medicaid is significantly cut, that number will increase significantly."
Sanders also pushed back against Republicans who claim that the $700 billion being reallocated from Medicare was "robbed" from seniors. Romney made the claim on Sundaythe same day that RNC Chair Reince Priebus accused Obama of having "blood on his hands" for that very reason.
Senator Sanders explained that the Affordable Care Act did not cut benefits for seniors but instead made how those benefits are dispersed "more efficient." Earlier on Monday, Lean Forward reported that the $700 billion came out of payments to "some hospitals, private insurers, and on prescription drugs as a way to control costs on the country's burgeoning health care bill."
Of Ryan's Medicare plan, Sanders said, "Everyone understands that they are destroying Medicare as it is currently constituted."

(5,917 posts)doesnt mean you're having any influence. stephanie miller, on her show, will give right-wingers lots of air time more than people who agree with her but they have no influence on her actions. so the gop might be listening to you but not really giving a _____ to what you're talking about.

(47,992 posts)profoundly passive aggressive and support a self-fulfilling prophecy about dis-empowerment.
I suggest that you ask yourself how you might be just exactly like that which you putatively oppose, just wearing a different label.
And, before you get angry at me for saying that to you, know that I seek the answer to that question in my own life at every opportunity.

(4,458 posts)calling was an issue with your State-then yes--you would get a response as such--but when I call about National issues--with the exception of Sen Cornyn-Never.
Each of their votes (National Issues) affects each of us, no matter where we live. When "they" all interview on MSM and give floor speeches they Do address All of "The American People", so they themselves Invite, if you will, ALL of us to respond. So I do.
Don't give up. It takes Many Hands To Make A Light Load. The More people call-the harder it is for them to ignore us---and for me--just because I am discouraged from participation? Energizes me toward More involvement.
It is, after-all, Our Govt. We (most) Want & Have A Right To Hold A Seat At The Table.

(37,573 posts)Is Obama arguing that "the Bush tax cuts should expire"? I don't think he is. He's only arguing for 22% of them to expire.

(37,573 posts)but under his plan, the richest 20% still get $163 billion a year in tax cuts, and the bottom 20% only get $14 billion a year. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021880321
