Far-Right Hungarian Politician Denounced For Anti-Semitism

A Hungarian right-wing politician has sparked outrage after he urged the government to draw up lists of Jews who he said pose a "national security risk."

Jobbik party leader Marton Gyongyosi said the list was necessary because of heightened tensions following the brief recent conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. He said the conflict presented an opportunity to draw up such a list, which he said should include members of parliament and of the government.

Gyongyosi's party, the third-largest in the country, is known for frequent slurs against Jews and Roma.

The opposition Socialist Party has called for stricter laws against hate speech. Between 500,000 and 600,000 Hungarian Jews died in the Holocaust.
