I'm just saying there are a lot of people working who fall in the category of working poor

(4,869 posts)Same with Democrats. I feel like "middle class" has become such a broad term that it could mean anyone making $30-250,000 a year.
John Edwards was the only recent candidate I can think of that actually touched the subject of the poor and working poor, pity he turned out to be a piece of shit.

(23,553 posts)In the middle of what? So if you work at Wal-Mart, you're not middle class, but you are if you own your own business and net $250,000 in personal income each year? It makes no sense.

(27,315 posts)Very few Dems talk about poor people. They seem to think that what is not rich is middle class.

thanks for the post.

This happens because the old definitions of working class, middle class, affluent, and wealthy don't mean all that much in this country, where in common parlance if you aren't rich you are middle class.
His stand with working people shows that "middle class" in his lexicon includes the working poor. By using it, he can include everyone.

We are subsidizing these businesses and the profits they make.

(14,337 posts)Wife had full time job. Husband had full time and a part time job on the side. They made a few dollars over miniumum wage. 7 kids costs a lot of $$$$s, especially in an expensive state like NY.
They were on the "government dole" food stamps, Section 8 housing, free lunches for their kids, etc. "Get a JOB and get off the government dole, lazy bastards". We hear this all the time. Well, this family HAD jobs, and more than one.

(720 posts)We Democrats will always hold this family as Americans, the republicans hold them as the 47%. We Democrats want what is best for this family and we are willing to pay a little more to see that they get the help needed, the republicans get Norquist to hold down taxes at all cost.
We Democrats have finally seen the disparity between the 2% and the rest of us and are rising up to make the changes necessary.
Thank you for your post.
