Supreme Court wanted to talk about a "hypothetical" case...

They did not want to talk about the Trump case specifically.

At one time, Justice Alito said he did not want to talk about those specific facts brought up by the prosecution lawyer, but another imaginary case. What would keep every President after Trump from prosecuting their predecessor, he wanted to know?

None of the conservative Justices wanted to address the crimes of Donald Trump, although Amy Coney Barrett did get in a useful line of questioning at one time for the Trump lawyer.

Over-all, they appeared out of touch with reality. They offered no reason for people to be confident or optimistic that they would do anything that was not helpful to Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Maybe they were just trying to keep on the good side of Trump. After all, they are in no rush to offer any guidance or judgement.
