The Trump Organization calls Trump Tower one of the most iconic commercial properties anywhere in the world... Have they visited the place lately?Nell Scovell

For the duration of his criminal trial, Donald J. Trump has moved back into the penthouse of Trump Tower at the corner of 5th Avenue and 56th Street. With the owner and former president back in residence, you might think theyd spruce up the abutting commercial and retail space. Youd be wrong. The Daily Beast dropped in earlier this week for a tour of the crown jewel of The Trump Organization.

THE LOBBY
The Trump Organization website brags, One of the most notable features of Trump Tower is the breath-taking 60-foot waterfall embellishing the eastern wall of the building.
Today, its notable that theres no water in the waterfall. And a waterfall without water is just a wall. Heres a shot from the second story looking down:
So much has changed in the past eight years since Trump called the tower home. Ivankas eponymous fine jewelry store is gone. And remember the Currency Exchange that served as the backdrop to the iconic moment that Melania and Trump stepped on the escalator?
Thats gone, too.
But lets not pine for what is lost. Lets see whats there

Trump Tower is as tawdry as its namesake. And the Trump Cafe isn't even open. It's allegedly "closed for renovation" and is said to open "the second week of May" but the security guard has his doubts, lol.

(54,476 posts)It was parked off in a corner, no security, no maintenance, no one paying any attention to it at all. Maybe if he cashes in on his $950 million stock windfall ($1.2 billion minus taxes, if he remembers to pay them), hell have enough to pay his lawyers, make bail, pay the city back property taxes, and still have enough left over to pay to fuel up his jet, hire a crew, and bribe some airport in the Caribbean on an island that doesnt have an extradition treaty with the USA.
And you know what? Even after that makes page 1 in the Washington Post and is the lead story on MSNBC, while playing golf in exile on Antigua, hell still get 45% of the vote in November, and get Putin to finance his campaign, both the above board part, and the dirty, corrupt part.

(17,462 posts)Because there are NO countries in the Caribbean without an extradition treaty with the USA...even Cuba. At least, among the island nations.

I've always predicted that if Smelvis runs, it'll be to one of the countries on the Arabian Peninsula, where none have such treaties. Remember how close Jared & Co. has been with the Saudis. Russia would be decidedly too dangerous a destination as Putin would have no use for him at that point.
Having said that, because of his ego TSF would flee ONLY if the walls are truly closing in, and he has exhausted all other options.

(1,429 posts)Saint Martin is one of them, although it's not officially a country, but a colony under the control of France. France does have an extradition treaty with the US, but Saint Martin has a special status with France that is on the complicated side. So there could be a prolonged legal struggle if he went there.
The other country is Cuba, and he can't go there. They hate him for destroying the trade status they negotiated with Obama. To stick it to this ultimate capitalist pig, they'd send him back for pure spite.
DFW
(54,476 posts)It appears to be a 757, which will get him to Europe, but probably not as far as Russia. Morocco or one of the other North African countries, maybe.
I agree, he'd only bolt if he felt it was his last-ditch option. He may not be a cinch to lose the election yet, but if, come November, he's riding on the Marrakesh Express, I think his chances will be greatly diminished.

(17,462 posts)under the pretext of "inspecting his golf courses." Then, after refueling, on to whatever final destination.
He'd have to act fast, though, before his passport is revoked.
The other scenario is if the Saudi prince sends his own personal plane to Florida to pick TSF up.

(54,476 posts)At least with him, the airports would be sure to get paid for their fuel bills.

(8,879 posts)He can't resist a single chance to grift off the U.S. Government.......
He probably charges the Government Rent whenever he is there, or at least uses it as a tax write off......and also charges the Gov't for all the Secret Service occupied areas.........
He found a way to charge the Gov't for all the rooms the SS occupy at Mar-a-lago. And even found a way to raise the rents much higher for those rooms......
He shouldn't get too depressed, his room in HELL will be far worse, and he won't have any more complaints about how cold he is....
He can't charge the government for his accommodations because he's now a private citizen. Where he lives is his call, and at his expense. The US Government has nothing to do with that, anymore than it does with the living accommodations of Jimmy, Carter, Clinton, GDub or Obama.
The only taxpayer-funded accommodation for former presidents is Trowbridge House in DC, and it's for temporary visits only--no long-term stays.
DENVERPOPS
(8,879 posts)about HIS boarding expenses, but it has been well documented that his SS crew and their expenses were charged to the US Government.
The SS even paid for an entire fleet of new, custom golf carts for all his Golf resorts, because the normal ones weren't "fast" enough. I am sure there are countless/endless other Trump grifts, paid by the Tax Payers that we don't even know about.
Flying constantly to all his golf resorts cost a small fortune every time. Legitimate Trips were minimal...... If people knew the ACTUAL cost of AirForceOne's and the Secret Services ACTUAL costs of each and every trip, for four years, they would faint.
The figures quoted for AirForceOne trips are a joke, probably only the cost of fuel........
You can bet, if Trump isn't elected, the discoveries of the Trump years corruption and grifting will still be found out for decades......

(260 posts)Came to me when I read this. Bette Davis' line from the film "Beyond the Forrest". Later spoken by Elizabeth Taylor in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?" From the clip I found on YouTube Bette Davis looked very young and her voice did not have the character as it did later. I wish I could do Bette Davis, but I never could get it right.

(1,429 posts)Which is a variation of Boston Brahmin, the erstwhile elite of that city. It's an accent derived of wealthy Bostonians who made frequent trips to the UK, and had regular associations with eltie British nationals.
So it's rather a mash between an RP (Received Pronunciation) British English accent and a Boston accent. If you can pull off both of those, then a good Bette Davis accent will come through with ease.
I could go into detail about how to shape the consonants--and especially--the vowels in the mouth, but I don't want to bore anyone with that. Just know that the vowels are the key to a good Bette Davis accent.
