Bob Dole, 89, hospitalized at Walter Reed
Updated 5:23 p.m. Eastern Time
Bob Dole, the 1996 Republican presidential nominee and longtime leader of Senate Republicans, has been hospitalized at Walter Reed Hospital, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Tuesday.
"He is at Walter Reed not for a checkup," Reid said on the Senate floor. "He is there because he is infirm. He is sick."
Shortly after Reid's comments, however, an assistant to Dole told CBS News in an email that Dole will leave the hospital tomorrow after a "routine" procedure.
"He checked himself in for a routine procedure and will discharge tomorrow," Dole's assistant said. "Doing well and watching the CRPD debate on CSPAN 2."
Reid spoke after Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, read a letter from Dole urging passage of the Convention of Persons with Disabilities, or CPRD, which is focused on rights for the disabled. Dole, who is 89, sustained an injury in World War II that left his right arm shattered.

(111,367 posts)Dole was the last decent man that party ran. Once he was away from his handlers and ready to relax after he lost, he turned out to be a pleasant and witty man.
He was wrong about many things, that's why he was a Republican, but he was still decent.
I hope he has his minor procedure and goes home safely with more good time left to him.

(269,201 posts)I'm just pointing out that I don't know of routine procedures for people his age.
Not that many folks reach his age. I wish him luck and more importantly quality living.

(111,367 posts)are occasionally admitted if they're going through a panel of fasting labs the next morning, followed by simple things like treadmill tests. It can be very minor and we rabble would be expected to do them all as outpatients.

(40,416 posts)Just kidding.
I lived in KS for almost two decades. Everybody liked Bob Dole there, and even Democrats respected him. Beneath his apparent gruff exterior, he is apparently a nice guy.
So, I hope that gruff old guy is okay, and that the docs can deflate his erection soon.
