Of all the hypocrites...WalMart now ranks #1 in my book. I read a letter in the Globe by a man called Chris Buchanan and decided to research him. He is the Director,Public Affairs and Government Relations, Walmart in Plymouth.
The second paragraph is the epitome of irony!
"Its most pressing interest is in hunger" Wow that from a company that refuses to offer their employees a living wage! A wage that would allow them to put food on their tables.
This is the height of Hypocrisy. Of course the good Samaritan's at Walmart are only doing it for all those charitable deductions
Walmarts total charitable giving in Massachusetts, including in-kind contributions and charitable donations from individual stores, is about $10 million a year.
While the foundation is likely to fund a wide range of programs and projects, its most pressing interest is in hunger, workforce training and issues of homelessness, said Chris Buchanan, senior manager of public affairs and government relations.
There are a lot of needs out there. Our (charitable giving) budgets have gone up to reflect tough economic times, he said.
On a national level, the Walmart Foundation also has increased philanthropic giving, announcing recently that its charitable giving for the year ending Jan. 31, 2010, was more than $467 million in cash and in-kind giving an $89 million increase over the previous year.

(83,804 posts)I felt this was so very important to post in light of all the crap about Walmart and it's worker abuse.
However it sunk like a stone.
Thanks for giving it some life!

(83,804 posts)Okay...let me see if I can make some sense here:
Walmart grossly underpays it's employees...causing them to seek other social programs to off set their need for housing and food. Then Walmart rides to the call of impoverished offering them Charity. To their very own employees that they have placed in this position.
They are trying to feed the starving masses...the ones that they create with their piss poor pay.
Then they try to sit there and paint themselves as hero's for the masses with their charitable work.
Note that I stated that the director Chris Buchanan is not only A Public Affairs Adm. He is also Government Relations Adm....meaning they are sucking off the GOP tit!
