Leaving a lot of guesswork that a monkey could probably do okay with. For bananas.

(35 posts)They should also include all of the overpaid athletes on this list.
The disparity in wages in this country is outrageous.

(546 posts)I'm a CEO.
I climbed a corporate ladder that I didn't build.
My Corporation shields me from personal responsibility.
My Corporation pays less in taxes than real people and I get the difference.
I didn't build my house or my vacation home or my country club.
I never change the oil in my car and I never fix my plumbing.
If I fail at work I will be well-compensated.
If I give a pittance of my wealth to charity I will be canonized as a philanthropist.
I did not dream the American Dream. I found a way to profit from it.

(5,946 posts)He did start that company and apparel is a company where you can flame out real fast. I was in IT in apparel for a short while and all sorts of unexpected things can kill your company, We had the NYC black out in the 70's and had to close the factories in the south for 3 days. Our orders were all on short delivery dates we could not meet with all the picklists in the computer in NYC, sales people had to negotiate late delivery dates, et al, it took weeks to get things back to normal.

(5,946 posts)I am not saying he deserved it all, just a 'little' bit more credit than the others because at least he worked for it. The companies I worked for, the CEOs got in through the white guy network or through relatives, not through any great intelligence or talent. They made bad decisions and then get golden parachutes when the company wants to get rid of them, rather than ridden out on the rails as they should be by the stock holders.
The dress factories of the south were no great bargain for the workers either, not nearly as bad as the ones in Asia, but they would find ways of paying people minimum wage and docking their pay for any little reason. I remember spending more than proportionate for clothes in my youth, like $20 for jeans would not be closer to $100 now, but people are used to paying people less than a living wage.

(13,992 posts)Unlike most of these other grifters, Lauren at least creates a product that people actually want to buy and has first-hand knowledge of how to run his business. If anybody could pull off selling apparel at the actual cost (i.e., not using sweat shop labor), it would be Polo. I hope they try it.
