(10,611 posts)In larger organizations, there can be so many mid-level managers it comes down to which of them directly affect your work.
Sometimes you get people who just aren't managerial material who figure out how to worm their way into a spot. Their actions are driven by ego or ladder-climbing or insecurity, and they're NOT about doing what's best for their team or the company at large.
If they're high enough on the org chart, their bad decisions can cause a lot of stress for a lot of people. Unfortunately, they're sometimes in a position to say everything's rosy to other managers and higher-ups, while people in their department are looking for the exit.
Organizations can lose good workers - the people actually making things happen - before they figure out where the real problems lie.

(5,762 posts)But everyone here brings something to the table. Sure, everyone brings their personality to the table as well, but it's like any large family. You make accommodations unless someone is totally beyond the pale. I have only witnessed that once in 15 years, and with a non-managerial employee.
Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
