NH's first openly transgender lawmaker won't take office

Good. She's a crook.

In 2008, Laughton served four months in jail on a charge of conspiracy to commit credit card fraud. She was then known as Barry Charles Jr. She had been sentenced to a longer term, but she was released early, with a requirement for 10 years of good behavior. A New Hampshire newspaper reported her criminal history last week, leading Republican officials to call for her resignation, even though her record did not disqualify her from holding office.

She didn't disclose her criminal history during the campaign and she didn't pay the court ordered restitution.

They need to run a background check, not rely on self-reporting.

Good thing it's 'just' a selectman seat....though that IS how we grow 'em; they start small and move on up the line.

Trust but verify, as the Russians say (and Raygun quoted).

Darrel Izza is in the House and he was a car thief. Newt was charged with kiting bad checks - and on and on with the repubs...so why is she chastised until she quits. It's a pity she folded.

As for Newt....

The thing is just because they tolerate these creeps does that mean we should? And I sure as hell don't think much of people who don't meet their restitution requirements.
