If Obama cuts Medicare, guess who will bash him the most?

the Republicans of course. The ads are probably already produced, ready to run for the 2014 midterms: Obama cut Medicare.

Yesterday I heard an interesting conspiracy theory on RW radio. They were referencing Obama's statements suggesting a willingness to cut Medicare. This would be a concession to the host's demands on Obama, but a caller called up and suggested that by cutting Medicare, Obama might be deliberately undermining the program, so that it collapses and would be replaced by national health care.

Where to start? First of all, even if that made sense as a tactic (which it doesn't), don't we already have national health care? Isn't that what Obamacare is? According to the host of this radio show has been saying for 3 years, in the strongest language possible, we now have European-style national health insurance. We have that right now, since Obamacare passed.

That's far from the only way this attack makes no sense, but there is no doubt that the GOP will make it. It will be just like what Romney did with the 716 billion nonsense. Obama was mightily irritated by the abject cynicism of that attack, as was I, but if he cuts Medicare he will see those same attacks.

Or should I say, the Congressional democrats will. Obama won't be up for reelection.

Obamacare is a national requirement to buy health insurance.
Looks to me like you can still lose tons of money and go bankrupt if all you can afford is a bronze policy.
But yeah, extend Medicare to all, and then we will have national health care.
Collapsing medicare just shoves seniors into the maws of the insurance companies.
We do not have European style health care for all, at all.

And yes, damaging Medicare and/or Social Security will be very bad news for the 2014 Dem elections.
As it should be.

Evidently, that's how you see it because the majority of people support expanding Medicaid.

Only putting everyone on Medicare is national health care.
Taxes in Europe go to paying for health care. That is why, for instance, gasoline seems more expensive.
As long as we keep having subsets of people on Medicare or Medicaid, we do not have national health care, just national law to buy insurance.
Huge difference.

Our governor has been solidly against the expansion for forever, and I don't think this state is unique. Does anyone have a prognosis for low-income not-quite-Medicaid-qualified populations in those states?

Republicans talk vaguely about Entitlements...which the Republican base hears as lazy people taking my hard earned money..or

lazy people that won't work, taking away my money.

Dems respond by saying how they don't want Pres Obama changing Medicare, Medicaid, etc....so Democrats are seen to be cutting Medicare ..

While the cagey Republicans are always saying..Democrats don't tell us what they are willing to do about Entitlements...

"Democrats are not cooperating.."

"Obama should lead and tell Republicans exactly their proposals for the budget, fiscal cliff .."

Knowing as soon as Democrats respond with concrete changes to Medicare..that are broadcast by MSM...the Republcan ads for 2014 or 2016 are written.

"Democrats are taking away your Medicare". .. and their base will gobble it up.

Passing civil rights lost the south to the dems from Johnson to now. Cutting programs 85% of the people do not want cut is suicide. Ask George W. how the political capital worked out privatizing social security. The UPS guy Is already crippled at 55 , how can they work to 70? Only senators and CEOs that sit on their ass all day and do nothing can retire at 70. Don't do t!
