My cable company is owned by the same people who bought Newsday a few years back. Lately they cable service has been requesting customers to respond to surveys and I usually do. This one included an essay question where they asked about issues you might have with the service. I had three issues. Two were related to the service. Then for number three I said that the whole family was extremely upset with Newsday for endorsing Mitt Romney and that we were considering switching to their Verizon Fios for that sole reason. Several of the survey questions dealt with whether or not you were likely to leave them for Fios, or Dish or whatever else there is.
Of course, they were not looking for that kind of issue and Newsday itself got an avalanche of negative mail at the time of the endorsment - and said so and ran some of it on the LTE page. Do you think it's worth it to make your point any time you can, even if your comments probably won't every get to anyone who decides these things? Or do you think that I'll be lucky ever to get a repair person out here again if I do stay with cable?

(67,112 posts)involved with politics is beyond me ... like they think that's going to get them more customers. No, I don't think what you did is stupid at all. You shared a concern and it would be mine too. Frankly, I would look for other providers. I'm fed up with corps. that take political and/or religious stances. They don't need me.
Is Verizon not as political?

(111,359 posts)I really don't think you have anything to worry about. If they do start getting balky, consider Direct, though. I've been very happy with it although once the teaser rate is over, it won't save you a hell of a lot of money. I bundle mine with my DSL, so it's not that bad.
Besides, they carry things like Link, Current, Ovation, Logo and a lot of other stations cable often won't touch.

(243 posts)I don't bring up politics with strangers- but when they ask or say something stupid, I give my opinions. I doubt that the service dept. has an enemies list, but if you think you are getting poor service give your money to someone else.
