Holy crap. For anyone who thinks Democratic Underground is too tolerant (or intolerant) of criticism regarding Obama or other Democrats, just check out our right-leaning counterpart! Free Republic creator Jim Robinson has made it clear that he will delete the account of anyone who posts anything critical about Newt Gingrich, the candidate he has decided to endorse!
Here was the message prior to the massacre, written by JR himself:
Leftists, MittBots, PaulBots, RINOs, Karl Rove (!) establishment types and trolls of many stripes and colors have one-by-one driven our leading grassroots conservative candidates out of the race. They worked for years on Palin, then Perry, then Cain, then Bachmann, now Newt. When ever a non-establishment, non-RINO conservative gets into the lead they open fire and 24/7 trash and torpedo until they drive them out.
NO MORE!!
If you want to troll and trash our conservative candidates, take your business elsewhere! PaulBots can take it to a liberaltaraian (sic) site. RomneyBots to FOX News.(!) RINO trolls to the NY Times. Lib trolls to DU. Abortionist/statist trolls to hell. I dont care where you go, but if youre here to trash Newt 24/7, Im gunning for your azz!! (sic)
REBELLION IS HERE!!
WAR IS HELL!!
DONT TREAD ON ME!!
Let it not be said that conservatives are afraid of a friendly little difference of opinion...I just wonder, what's going to happen at FR when Romney wins the nomination anyway?

(8,571 posts)because of a little massacre? They been wandering over here lol They do a lot of wandering in their mind too.

(53,339 posts)That part isn't so funny, but they are clever enough to avoid violating the rules and getting TS'd...for a while, at least.

(8,571 posts)You spelled it out more clearly, and I agree it isn't funny. Most of them give themselves away pretty quick though.
Bicoastal
(12,645 posts)...I kind of feel like that site is going the way of the dinosaur. I took a hiatus from DU for a year or two, and I was surprised by a)how much has changed over here and b) how little has changed over there. In addition to the lack of technological improvements, they're now virulently anti-FOX, anti-Rove, anti-Paul...how long before that corner they're painting themselves into becomes too small to be comfortable?
They're not in any way representative of the Republican party anymore. I'm not sure what they are, but they're definitely not competition to DU.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)They were an antagonist, but a weak one. And, as you point out, an ever weaker one as they've continued to marginalize themselves into ever smaller niches.
And instead of trying to broaden their appeal, RimJob is reducing it with his purity test on the GOP field. I expect him to suddenly become more tolerant when the cash flow tells him to.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)The site hasn't been upgraded in forever, it's practically unusable, and other sites like CC are growing very fast (and placing themselves in direct opposition to DU, with their DU stalking pages and all).
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)As a DUer discovering it, it was entertaining at first. But it soon became boring, with the same old crap over and over again. And from their own comments, even their awards--the highlight of their year--were a bummer.
FR seems to be going down, and CC--especially their forum obsessed with DU--is crap (and I'd tell that to FS to his face). Those wingnut sites seem to be fading away--but they're the only ones who still don't get it.

(6,238 posts)They seem to focus on a few specific posters Sarah Iillburi has two posts about her on the first page. I have one, oddly enough it's the one where I complain about people attacking English majors. That was tame compared to some of my posts on here.

btw, a clerk at a store down the street says he'll teach me Arabic. He's Syrian, and seems to support the regime. His English is excellent until he gets into animated conversation, when he's hard to understand. But he's neither Alawite nor Sunni--he's Christian. I told him that I'll do my trip there when things settle down--mainly to Libya, Egypt and Tunisia, but maybe to ME countries like Syria as well. He went home for a visit 3 months ago, so I glean some info from him. When I asked him where he's from, he told me--Homs! And he doesn't seem to be in support of the protests.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)I'm trying to learn Arabic (using Pimsular learning system) in my spare time but lately I've been just wanting to catch up on TV shows and movies that I missed over the past year. Oh, and video games...
The Libyan guy I talked to was supportive of the Libyan Revolutionaries, but it's not like Gaddafi was one of those people you could support from the outside looking in, with how utterly repressed the state way.
I don't know about Syria, though, I'd be open to going there if it was stable at the time, but I'm thinking a year or more out anyway, so who knows what happens between now and then.
Oh wow, I found a nasty piece of work trying to find that old post where I mentioned my Libyan laundry mat owner. Fascinating. I was going to link it but nevermind...
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)But when we do the trip to North Africa and the ME, I hope we can do it together--perhaps with others from the Libya Revolution threads. After all that, we've earned a trip to see it in person.

So, it doesn't matter if he snorted coke as a youth? It was a long time ago, a youthful in-discretion? Kinda like people who frequented sneakeasies during prohibition? Kind of a cute story, eh? Well, how about all the people whose lives have been destroyed by being arrested for the felony of drug possession? What about the millions of people who are rotting away in your filthy drug infested prisons at this very moment?
Well, by God, if you people insist on electing another cokehead as President, you damned well better throw open all the prison cell doors and free every man, woman, and child you're holding on drug charges. And if you're gonna elect another drug felon as President, you'd better rescind each and every one of your unconstitutional drug laws now on the books, including all of your unconstitutional search and seizure laws, and your asset forfeiture laws, and your laws that enable your unconstitutional snooping into our bank accounts and cash transactions. Well, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. You people are sick! Conservatives my ass. You people are nothing but a bunch of non-thinking hypocrits! You're a shame and a disgrace to the Republic!
And, I, for one, am tired of taking orders from cokeheads and felons! Elect another one and I'll tell you what. I'll be ready for war! It'll be time to take up arms and run the filthy lying bastards out!
