Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you.
In his visit to the Daimler Detroit Diesel plant in Redford, Michigan today, Presdient Obama amplified and gave full-throated endorsement of the battle being fought to stop Michigan from becoming the nations 24th Right to Work for Less state:
You only have to look to Michigan where workers were instrumental in reviving the auto industry to see how unions have helped build not just a stronger middle class but a stronger America. So folks from our states capital, all the way to the nations capital, they should be focused on the same thing. They should be working to make sure companies like this manufacturer is able to make more great products. Thats what they should be focused on. We dont want a race to the bottom. We want a race to the top.

I don't think he had a clue what would happen but he is about to find out.
I'm almost, almost saying that he might walk this one back.
Long shot but here is to hoping!

(14 posts)I have talked to two State of Wyoming employees who are terminated for one day each year so the state does not have to provide them with any benefits. Wyoming is probably the state most financially capable of providing these benefits! Wyoming has been a "Right to Work for Less" state forever.

(63,912 posts)because she always was able to negotiate her work arrangements with her boss. It turned out later that she was sleeping with him. She kinda proudly admitted it and as much as said that it was her "private arrangement" with him. And SHE was married and had kids!
That whole thing made me mad as hell. I couldn't even talk to her, I was so mad...

(10,597 posts)I think PO knows what a mistake he made back when WI Scotty boy did what he did. I, too, was disgusted with PO for not going to WI to take a stand for Labor. (However, it did not keep me and my family away from the polls in 2010.) Proceed, Mr President!

(1,372 posts)I guess they will vote on the side that will give them more until the public speaks up.
I say- Vote them the F^%k out anyway
The workers are not asked if they want right to work
and it makes it impossible to win any law suit against a controlling company.
My company used to say - We're talking about you, not anybody else here. - just to shut you up.
In actuality the laws reads that all employees should be treated the same - which means to me
that the treatment of other employees is relevant to one's complaint.
We are not - Of the people, for the people
We are actually - Of the wealthy, for big business and special interest
why aren't lobbyists considered illegal? It's just bribery - doing things for the ones with the most money...
Let's tell it like it is!

(13,616 posts)But a lot of the reason why the Gulf States grew is because companies were seeking anti-union governments, which is to say, those that still were built for economies of sharecroppers if not outright slaves. Dixie is right to work, and it is reflected in the wages.

(1,418 posts)Obama didn't bother going to Madison, WI when the same union worker battle was fought there-- just a few months ago?? During one particular giant pro-worker rally, Obama's plane flew over WI, not once, but twice.
