Columbus Circle Shooting: What do YOU make of these strange details?

Getaway car used in L.A. man's slaying found in Queens, NYPD says
So far, police said they don't have a clear motive for Monday's shooting and hope the Los Angeles trip will shed more light on his recent activities, sources said.

Woodard played basketball at the exclusive Campbell Hall private high school in Studio City and graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2003. His stepfather, Rod Wellington, said in an interview Tuesday that Woodard was pursuing a law degree at the University of West Los Angeles School of Law (school officials would not confirm if he was enrolled).

But court records revealed a more complex picture. Woodard has been arrested at least 20 times, according to New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. The arrests include charges of cocaine possession, grand theft and battery against a former spouse.

It was not clear what brought Woodard to New York after he purchased a one-way ticket from California, Kelly said, or where he was going when he left a hotel. Woodard checked into the hotel Sunday and checked out about 1:15 p.m. the next day.

He had told his mother he expected to be home Monday.

So this gentleman flew from Los Angeles to New York with a one-way ticket, checked into a hotel, checked out the next day, went to a specific spot, walked up and down the street at that spot for a while- until he was shot by a man waiting for him, who then calmly got back into his car, drove off afterward.

Any guesses? That's weird, y'all.

1. I think the guy was responding to a Nigerian advance fee fraud scam

He was walking up and down expecting to meet his Barrister to deliver what was supposed to be some cash but was actually a satchel of dirty laundry, but the gunman was working for the Clique Mob on orders of the Governor who had figured out that the victim was trying to counter-scam him.

But yeah, it is really weird. It doesn't sound as though anything was exchanged - it's not as though he was transporting money or drugs or something of value that was stolen - so it seems someone just set him up for murder. One of the LA Times articles said he was thought to be a "promoter" of some kind, so maybe he was lured by a job possibility (which would explain the 1-way ticket)?

...fly to New York to "answer" for it. And he was the person who "they" sent.

That's one possibility, anyway. It's very weird.

that is about the only thing that makes sense of his actions.
He must want someone to get the life insurance.

...had his execution take place somewhere a little more...symbolic?...that just walking on the street. I think he didn't expect to die. And I also think that if he really wanted to have someone execute him (certainly a possibility), that he wouldn't have had to fly across country to do it.

Just my gut reaction, anyway.

It doesn't seem to answer anything in specific, but it seems to indicate his murder was a lot more likely than the rest of us. Thanks for the link!
