So ReTHUGs are claiming to have a broader mandate than the President

WTF - have you seen the letter from Conservatives to the GOP???
http://www.salon.com/2012/12/12/conservative_activists_to_gop_lawmakers_you_are_being_tested/
<snip>

A group of big right-wing activists wrote an open letter to House and Senate Republicans, telling them they are “entering into a period of testing,” wherein their conservative principles will be challenged and “the whole leftist apparatus is gearing up to panic you and to force you to cave in. Don’t do it.”

The letter, posted by conservative columnist Morton Blackwell on RedState.com, urges lawmakers to be strong against the liberals’ “current power grabs.”

“If Republicans cave in now, when it really counts, next time you will be weaker, because your conservative base will be outraged,” the letter says. “Many who worked hard to elect you in the past will never lift a finger for you again.”

The letter concludes:

So it’s in the interest of the country and in your personal interest for you to use the power you unquestionably have now to stand firm and not surrender your conservative principles, no matter how loud the clamor of people whose central interest is to advance the left’s agenda.

Fuck you ReTHUGs you do not have a broader mandate that President Obama or the Democrats.
The Democrats picked up seats in the Senate and way more votes that ReTHUGs in the House.

The republicans think in terms of who pays for their comfy lifestyle and we the common tax payer are at the bottom of the food chain.

If a broader mandate means fewer votes then I guess they have one. I mean, they even lost the popular vote in the one half of one branch of the federal government that they still control. So if it's not opposite day, then that's a confusing claim.

And damn near have completed their job. We have to stand up to them or our democracy will only be a memory.

...it's this "mindset" that has hurt the rushpublicans in 3 of the past 4 major elections ('06, '08 & '12) and will only hurt them further down the road as they continue to live in their bubbleworld and try to defy reality.

It's interesting to see all these selfish people screaming how their principals are to remain as self-centered as possible...no matter how self-destructive those "principals" are. They created the mess we're in...avoid assuming any responsibility for it...and have done everything possible to prevent the clean up. They might think they're "smart" but while sucked into their bubble they've lost the moral and intellectual ground on every major issue of the day.

I am not sure I would argue with any of that.

Think about it. If you ran on a platform of 'no taxes' and garnered a good bit of support in your district and then raise taxes, you are going to have some 'splainin' to do. And nobody turns harder or more viciously than the hard right. And they WILL turn on those they perceive as abandoning them. Obviously there is a logical argument to be made for compromise, but when has the hard right EVER been guided by logic?

It has to be hard to be a Republican right now.

They've got a point, I know of very few tea partiers already elected to Congress in 2010 who got defeated last month. And someone from the moderate wing of the GOP lost the Presidential election to a man with really terrible unemployment numbers.

The piece you cite is about the struggle within the Repuke party, it's not about what power they might have with the rest of the country.
