I would assume it could be transferred if still valid.

There are only certain prescriptions that are at that price. Better see if yours is one of them before you transfer the prescription.

I found that Costco had a program that provided drugs much cheaper than all other companies around. It was closer to 20 a month and saved her because the alternative was to not take the drug.

You do not have to be a member of Costco to order a prescription through them.

My local shoprite provides most generic antibiotics for free.

you can find generic drugs at cheaper prices than with a prescription drug plan. Because my regular pharmacy was closed for a week due to Hurricane Sandy, I had to get my bp medicine at a local food store pharmacy (not Walmart). Their over-the-counter price (without drug plan) was $4 cheaper than what I've been paying with a drug plan at the other pharmacy.

but it depends on the medication you are getting. For example, I get simvastatin for $4 at my grocery store pharmacy, and Wal Mart and others have it for the same price. Not every drug costs $4, only a select few.

You don't need to join a program per se, you just take in your prescription and if that's on the list of $4 prescriptions, that's what you pay.

I take another medication that costs $1800/month. There's no way in the world I could afford to pay that and Wal Mart isn't going to give it to me for $4 so I had to get on a state plan to pay for it.

My wife is on a number of medications. We go to different places to get them. We get her $4 meds at Kroeger, we get something called Gavapentin at Costco as they are the cheapest ($50 a month) for that, and we get her Insulin at Wal-Mart as they are $24 a month instead of $70 at Costco or Kroeger.

Call around and get prices, it's really the only way to do it.

And screw anyone who gives you crap about shopping at Wal-Mart. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Anyone who isn't living "off the grid" is giving money somewhere down the line to some asshole of a corporation, don't let their self righteous Wal'Mart rants bother you.

And if you have a particularly pricey one, ask the pharmacist if there are any coupons or programs to help pay for it.

Many of them offer their prescriptions at reduced rates, or for free, depending on your financial circumstances. Check their websites, you copy some forms, you fill them out, your doctor fills out the prescription page. Be sure to fill in every blank. Send them out, and you'll hear from them in a short time. you can also call them to check at their 800#. I receive 3 expensive medicines through Merck for free, with their program.

No special requirements, just the prescription.
