Soledad O'Brien Slams Sessions on Food Stamps: GOP trying to balance the budget on the backs of poor

While President Obama and the Democrats have talked a lot about protecting the middle class from tax hikes and entitlement cuts in any debt deal that eventually emerges from the fiscal nightmare, it looks increasingly likely that food stamps will come under the knife. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate budget committee, has taken the lead recently in attacking these "gifts" to the poor. Monday night on CNN, Sessions said the food-stamp program—which now serves a record 47 million people—is "out of control" and needs to be cut down to size. But Soledad O'Brien took him to school.

Love how Soledad asks ... "Why are you trying to balance the budget on people who are making under $23,000 per year? ..."

She's actually asking politicians the right questions and hard questions and embarrassing the crap out of them on live TV. Just like Jon Stewart did with Christie.

She's not toeing the corporate line and being soft on the corporate, lap dog politicians. So she must go.

If we spent some money creating a national database for recipients instead of each state having a closed system we would save enough in fraud cases alone to keep the program secure and robust for a long time. As it is now there is no way to track recipients state to state except by diligent casework which means asking the right questions, looking for clues then following up with the states you believe the client may have other active cases in. With a caseolad of 1300-1800 per worker in my state you can see we do not often have the time for that and there are those that don't care also and won't pursue questionable application and make claims.

few in the MSM with the panache to call down lying, distorting right-wing assholes and the right-wing assholes controlling the MSM won't tolerate such impudent temerity. Go Soledad.
