TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
A high-speed chase through Midtown last night ended in the shooting deaths of the suspect and a Tucson Police Department K-9 service dog.

According to a TPD news release, a carjacking suspect was found outside a residence in the 2900 block of East 2nd Street. Police say he put a large caliber revolver to his head. Officer Chris Fenoglio, the K-9 handler released his dog, Ivan, who bit the suspect on his left arm. The suspect then shot K-9 Ivan once at close range, the release said.

Officers Fenoglio, Matthew Merz, Jason Kerns and Jon Collamore all fired multiple shots at the suspect, striking him numerous times.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. K-9 Ivan was transported to Valley Animal Hospital, where he died after extensive life-saving attempts.

Though these dogs do such a valuable service and by there very nature can easily perform feats no human could possibly do it still bothers me a bit they they aren't given a choice of whether or not to do a job that puts their lives on the line, yet utterly dedicated anyway and unlike human officers are incorruptible.

I also feel so bad for his officer partner knowing how deeply Ivan was loved and cherished by him and certainly beyond devastated by his loss.

Rest in peace dear Ivan. You are a true hero.
