Think about it. As in so many other similar incidents, these CHILDREN will carry this with them for the rest of their lives.

Innocence lost.
Being led out by cops. Unarmed cops. Concerned and gentle looking cops. But still cops. Hands on shoulders. A LOCK DOWN and subsequent EVACUATION. Being evacuated from their SCHOOL.
Because of some FUCKING NUT.

(23,272 posts)Their faces are drawn but not out of control - they are competently, purposefully doing their job.
That's the face of true heroes folks. Real folks in real pressure doing the read deal with our kids.
The kids needed someone to tell them what to do, where to go, and keep them safe. That's what the three women in that photo are doing.
Tears here just looking at the multitude of emotions on the faces in this pic.
Really says a thousand things without a word.

(2,383 posts)When General Discussion/LBN posts on news regarding shootings are moved to the Gun Forum. It's a huge problem in America and it does need to be discussed (I have a feeling that the pro-gunners are the ones that alert on these posts so they're hidden from the general DU population). People aren't thinking "Oh, there might be a bad guy with a gun today where I'm going." they're thinking about school, Christmas shopping, looking forward to movies and plays, etc etc.
It's so awful.

(31,894 posts)we do need to discuss this and the gun nuts need to be tombstoned or whatever they are called in DU3.

(23,278 posts)"One in 17 people in America lives with a serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, major
depression, or bipolar disorder.1 About one in 10 children live with a serious mental disorder.2
In recent years, the worst recession in the U.S. since the Great Depression has dramatically
impacted an already inadequate public mental health system. From 2009 to 2011, massive cuts to
non-Medicaid state mental health spending totaled nearly $1.6 billion dollars. And, deeper cuts are
projected in 2011 and 2012. States have cut vital services for tens of thousands of youth and adults
living with the most serious mental illness. These services include community and hospital based
psychiatric care, housing and access to medications."
Why would we cut known beneficial treatments for mentally-ill folks?I lay the blame straight on Ronald Reagan.

(22,871 posts)Unless you can prove that the person is a danger to themselves or others, there is very little the mental health provider can do. I'm not arguing against a good mental health policy in this country, but it doesn't stop mentally ill people from buying guns.

(67,112 posts)live IMO. Here, our city has an ordinance that prevents open carry, so our city is being sued because most of us think it's not necessary to walk around with six shooters and more strapped to ones sides. So, the will of the citizens in this city will probably be overturned by the state. What a moronic place to live.

Everytime something like this happens we think this is the one that will get our leaders to do something.
How many more have to die like this??

(10,597 posts)The country weeps. I really would like to know how the NRA member/enthusiasts are felling right now? Has anyone known one of these freaks, personally? I haven't (thank God), but I would like to know just how they feel at this moment? Do they feel any guilt? Do they feel "Not my problem"? Are they worrying about their "2nd Amendment rights"... since they must know how the people in this country are feeling right now: GUN CONTROL NOW! GDit!
Suspect is: Ryan Lanza, age 24, from NJ. His mother is/was a teacher at the elementary school.
It looks like he shot his father in NJ, and then came to this school where his mother works. I imagine his mother is dead too, now, along with her class?????

My Dear CrispyQ, I have a devilish feeling this afternoon. How do you think them over in the gungeon might react to what I said above? I'm going to sit here and hide behind this computer screen and see what happens....
