She resides in Washington DC, in a stylish home she and her husband lived in before his resignation and possible prosecution.
On some occasions, she would travel back to Chicago, where she had another job, Alderman of the 7th Ward, a war torn, bloody, and dangerous part of the city.
In one week, 38 serious crimes, including many instances of armed robbery took place (Dec 4-Dec 11, 2012). It is understandable why Sandi would prefer to live in a posh mansion in DC, rather than toil in a virtual urban war zone.
There's a new group in town. "SackSandi" After she missed a critical budget meeting a vote, after numerous absences (she has the highest absentee rate in the Council), and after her constituents always find her "away" and "unavailable," it finally came out that Sandi missed 90% of her committee meetings in 2012. Many of these were BEFORE Junior's "health issues." The group is seeking to force her out (allowing her to live her life of luxury in DC) and to replace her with a local resident - a surprising request, given her many absences.
SackSandi is getting a lot of local attention, and a growing amount of support. While Junior was able to coast on his dad's coat tails, Sandi's election was based solely on her last name. Despite having a great job handed to her, she has been considered far more aloof (translation - better then the people she was elected to represent) and arrogant. Unfortunately for SackSandi and the people of the 7th ward, there is no removal process that applies to the city council. Hell, some aldercritters ran their re-election campaigns from prison - AND WON! Being indicted for mafia ties never stopped some former aldercritters from keeping their offices as long as they wanted.
What is interesting is that her appalling attendance record is finally making the news. People are getting tired of the open gang wars on the southside, especially in places in and around the 7th Ward. having an aldercritter who is constantly MIA doesn't help. Watch for the chorus to have her resign or to be removed to continue to grow.

(168 posts)fault for having re-elected her. I'm not disagreeing that she shouldn't be canned, but they deserve what they get for either voting for her or not turning out to vote.
Just like we're being punished in my state for not turning out the vote and we ended up with Sick Rott (Florida)
ps - I voted against him though Alex sink wasn't the best choice

(28,017 posts)Some of it is anger that Junior screwed up.
Some of it is a strong dislike for Sandi. Entitlement worked so sell for Romney, after all.
Jesse stepped on a lot of toes throughout his career. Some people have long memories.

(20,729 posts)but after that it seemed i didn't see him in the news as much as before -- it seemed he was keeping a lower profile. then when i saw the thing about jesse jr i wondered -- and now his wife, i really start to wonder.
because you know every person in congress has some kind of skeleton that could be pulled out of the closet under the right circumstances. but only some are.
