What that amendment REALLY referred to can be surmised in the simple phrase "in order to maintain a well-armed militia". There was NO American military at the time of the Constitution, each state was pretty much on its own and had its own "army" or "miltia". THAT WAS WHAT THEY FUCKING MEANT. They'd be absolutely horrified at what it has become and what its defenders have wrought. Beyond horrified.

My God.

We are suppose to protect our children. I can hear the cold voices of the NRA saying the kids should be armed along with the teachers to protect themselves. One more tragedy that goes without solutions. This comes at a time when my new RTW state of Michigan just passed a law you can carry guns in school.

I can only imagine that the teacher, principal and psychologists were trying to talk to the shooter to keep him from shooting the kids when they themselves got gunned down. NEWTOWN, Conn.— An official with knowledge of Connection school shooting tells the Associated Press that 27 people are dead, including 18 children. Many of the shootings took place in a kindergarten classroom, sources told the Hartford Courant. The gunman is reported dead.

One official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way, says the man apparently had two guns.

The shooting was reported at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, in western Connecticut. State police say Newtown police called them at about 9:40 a.m. about the reports.

Newtown is in northern Fairfield County, about 45 miles southwest of Hartford and 80 miles northeast of New York City ...
