It is a teacher's RIGHT to be unarmed. It is NOT his/her responsibility.

Good grief, what is this, the United States of Deadwood?!

I posted this the other day, you know, after the OTHER shooting spree we had this week. I will post it again, slightly amended, now that the debate is starting all over again.

As a civilian, I have the expectation of safety in a typical public space and will deal with random incident as it happens.

If a tree happens to fall on me or a family member as we're walking down the street, so be it. In that unlikely circumstance, we will not have time to ponder the wisdom of wearing a thick helmet when there are trees around. We will be too busy dead or dying.

I'm not going to walk around wearing a thick helmet to cushion my skull from random treefalls, and I'm NOT going to walk around carrying a gun to shoot dead some lunatic randomly shooting their gun at me.

I feel it is my right to expect to not be shot during my daily life. I feel it is the responsibility of those who produce and promote guns and gun culture to ensure that this has a very, very, very small probability of happening.

Am I crazy?

you getting shot is the price of freedom.
Your fucking dead but he has freedom to carry his gun.
Don't they say that freedom isn't free?
I guess in this case the cost is innocent lives.

The responsibility to protect yourself, your life, the lives of those you love and care for, and your property ultimately rests with you.

I personally don't carry, or own, a gun, but that is likely to change very soon.

I have read of many instances where a would-be gun-toting killer has been stopped by an individual defending himself or herself with a gun of his or her own. The fact is, if some of the faculty at the school had been armed, lives may well have been saved. I know that doesn't fit the agenda of most here, but it is true nonetheless.

I think most people have a slim chance of being shot during their daily lives (with the exceptions of law enforcement and those who live in high-crime areas). Should that chance occur, it will be because a criminal has decided to break the law, not because a gun was manufactured.
