Day Before Connecticut Shooting Massacre, Michigan Legislature Passed Bill Allowing Guns In Classrooms
On Thursday, one day before the tragedy in Connecticut where at least 29 people were killed at an elementary school, the Republican-controlled Michigan legislature passed a bill that would allow people to bring guns into schools.
Amidst a lameduck session that has spawned a host of right-wing legislation, including a so-called right-to-work law and an extreme abortion ban, a sweeping rewrite of Michigans concealed handgun law was also approved yesterday. The legislation changes Michigans gun laws in a number of ways, including making it easier for people to receive a gun permit and opening up gun free zones, including schools and elsewhere, to people carrying concealed firearms.

(14,337 posts)as a TA. Very, very DANGEROUS. You will end up more CHILDREN, than you will save.
I got into a very big fight with my CCW owning husband (Florida) over this. I am there to protect the CHILDREN, not have a shoot out at the OK Coral.

(13,921 posts)Sounds like they did it, not just thought about it. along with passing every hairbrained idea they can think of. I have never ever heard of a legislature moving so fast on so many major bills.

"The bill now sits on Gov. Rick Snyders (R) desk, who must decide whether to approve or veto the legislation."

except for a policeman.
In our county the high schools and middle schools have officers assigned (they almost cut the funding for middle schools but the parents protested loudly)....which they did after Columbine. But none in elementary schools. We shouldn't need them there, but obviously it is necessary for their protection.

(22,336 posts)not sure about the middle school.
But that's a person who is trained in this kind of thing, and you know who it is.
Unknown numbers of guns and not knowing who has them or what training they have? Uhm, no.
