Shooter was "Adam Lanza".

A crazed gunman dressed in black went on a rampage at a Connecticut elementary school this morning, in a massacre that left the shooter and 26 dead others - including 18 children.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot his mother dead and targeted her kindergarten class at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., sources said. Sources also told The Post that Lanza's mother was a teacher at the school and he "had a dispute with her."

Lanza is dead inside the school.

Lanza used two handguns and a .223-caliber assault rifle, an official said. The official also said that New Jersey state police are searching a location in connection with the shootings.

Police in Hoboken, NJ are questioning Lanza's older brother Ryan, 24, but he is not a suspect.

• The New York Post reports the shooter was 20-year-old Adam Lanza. It was initially reported that it was his brother, 24-year-old Ryan Lanza, and a couple of media outlets broadcast his picture on air before retracting the report.

The confusion may have been caused by the fact that the shooter was carrying his older brother's ID, Reuters' Matthew Keys tweeted around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Patch reports that Ryan Lanza told friends that he thinks his developmentally disabled brother may have committed the crime.

• The gunman was reportedly wearing all black, a mask and a bullet-proof vest while carryingGlock and Sig Sauer 9mm handgun. Officials tell CBS News that a .223 Bushmaster rifle was found in his car, and that all of the guns were legally purchased by Ryan Lanza.

It may be a demographic we need to help more, watch more, understand better.

and cast out as outcasts when they don't conform to social norms. They are bullied for not "manning up". So sad that they have to lash out this way.

Many people are bullied, teased and find other ways of dealing with it.

But we may have to help those who are bullied so that they will make a better choice.

it never occurred to me to go get a gun and start shooting. I guess my parents taught me that actions have sometimes serious consequences.

Colleen Poundstone, a resident of Riverside Road, which leads up to the school, said she saw five kids - two boys and three girls - run through her back yard around 9:30 Friday morning. She said they had come through the local park, Sandy Hook Athletic Club field, which is near the school.

"They all looked upset," she said. "They said 'I just want to go home, I just want to go home."
