For various reasons, not the least of which is due to the pusillanimous legislators (of whatever party, branch of government or gender) who prefer to take he NRA's money and not dare face their 'wrath' at election time.

The problem with the question is "we."

State legislatures have pretty broad latitude to regulate guns, but chose not to, and the people who vote for state legislatures concur.

State legislatures have great power to *improperly* limit availability of abortion and chose to do so, and the people who vote for state legislatures concur.

The voters in many places like guns and do not like abortion.

The voters who matter most are actually those voting for state legislatures, and it appears that we are way behind among that group, nationally.

enact them because the NRA pays them far too much in bribes and they don't want to lose that $$.
