Today President Obama deserves a HELL of a lot of credit for the Mental health benefits in ObamaCare

I am not sure if everyone fully grabs how ObamaCare will expand access to mental health. The below link provides some details.

http://www.samhsa.gov/samhsanewsletter/Volume_18_Number_3/AffordableHealthCareAct.aspx

From expanded access to preventative care, the President should get a lot of credit for this. Expanded access is one way to prevent future days like Friday.

that they require. Many people that suffer from mental illness, refuse to stay on their meds. This is a very definite problem.

We largely did away with mental health institutions and went to a community model. The old system had many abuses. However, we did to think about some aspects of it.

Which is strange since I live with a roommate who has bipolar.

The president gets a lot of credit, as do Democrats (and maybe even a couple Republicans) in Congress who pushed this. I believe Tom Harkin has done a lot of work on mental health parity.

I can see how Obama care will help many who suffer from mental problems. I know a good number of people who suffer from items like depression who have found it difficult to afford treatment. Such people are unlikely to run amok and kill a large number of people but a few may decide to commit suicide and those that do often use a firearm for the task.
