There is nothing wrong with calling for political action after a tragedy, BUT

We have an obligation to get our facts straight. And that goes for people on both sides of all issues.

Bad facts leads to to bad policy and a misinformed citizenry. As a result we get policies like the Iraq War, the Patriot Act and the Bush taxcuts.

up too much when we're panicked etc. hence as you point out the Patriot Act. As much as I'd love to see most guns gone we need to be careful in crafting legislation controlling guns. imho
