our local school dist. requires elementary school class doors be locked at all times....

so they will not open from the outside but will open from the inside. however most teachers ignore this.

the schools have intruder drills and lock down drills with a code word. teachers are not to open the door for any reason during a drill, as they would be told to do during a real emergency.

students practice hiding in ways they cannot be seen thru any windows, to the extent this is possible depending on classroom.

again, most teachers do not follow the locked door policy as it is "inconvenient". I wonder if that has changed in the last day or so.
