A day after 20-year-old Adam Lanza allegedly opened fire on students and administrators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., early reports from The New York Times and other news sources identified one victim as 6-year-old Ana Marquez-Greene, daughter of jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene.

According to The Times, Jimmy Greene moved with his family to Newtown in July. After other jazz musicians posted their condolences on Jimmy Greene's Facebook page, he responded: "As much as she's needed here and missed by her mother, brother and me ... Ana beat us all to paradise ... I love you, sweetie girl."

CBC News reports that the Greene family moved from Winnipeg, Canada, to Newtown, Conn. after Greene's wife got a job at a local university. Jimmy Greene was reportedly a faculty member at the University of Manitoba's school of music for three years before the family moved.

.... and i have cried many times over the last few days. Not long but enough
to catch myself thinking as a father what a shame this "thing" is and a story of
a mother in the next town over going to sit w/ the mother of a little boy who was
killed and who played football w/ her son was too much for me to take.

I am the guy in this pix. My son just finished High School but some of my best
memories were watching him play pee wee football w/ his friends in grade school.
So the idea that football moms are getting together around Christmas to mourn the
loss of their kids hits me very hard.

sorry to ramble.
