Bloomberg:"If Congress wasn't so afraid of the NRA and I can show you that they have no reason to be

Bloomberg dismisses NRA's power as 'overrated'

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday that it was a "myth" that the National Rifle Association could destroy political careers.

"One of the things I decided to do in this last election was to support some candidates that were running against those that had great records with the NRA. Where the NRA was putting their money into one side, I decided to put my money into the other side," Bloomberg said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"We won four out of seven," he said. "And we won with a small amount of money. There is this myth that the NRA is so powerful."

"Today, the NRA's power is so vastly overrated. The public, when you do the polls, they want to stop this carnage. And if 20 kids isn't enough to convince 'em, I don't know what would be," Bloomberg said in the aftermath of the deadly shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn.

"If Congress wasn't so afraid of the NRA — and I can show you that they have no reason to be — but if they were to stand up and do what was right for the American public, we'd all be a lot better off," Bloomberg said.

Just like so many in congress are afraid of Grover Norquist, it has to do with not only all the money they get, but the fact that they think without that money they can't win another term. The far right crazies, tea bagger types, are always making threats about running one of their own candidates in the primaries, and that scares the republicans. They created the tea baggers, but now the tea baggers can make these threats it works.

Same with the NRA. So many on the right these days have fallen for the BS coming from the right wing media whores who keep taking about how Obama will take their guns, or that the right has to "take back this country". All kinds of BS the feed the loons on the right. Members of congress fear losing their jobs, so instead of doing what is right for the country, they do what is right for their on pocket books! Those who fear the big money don't really care about this country, only heir own survival in congress.

Big money has to go. There needs to be new laws to stop huge sums of money putting in "puppets" for the corporations and the rich. Only problem is as long as there are so many who fear losing their jobs, there won't be any reforms made.

Republicans have gone to trying to take over the power at state levels, and democrats need to take back those states. I think that after the crap republicans have done since the 2010 elections when they took control of many states, that democrats have a very good chance of doing this in the next state elections, but they really need to start working on that plan now.
