I own a gun and have decided to get rid of it

I own a pump action shot gun, I bought for "home defense" six years ago. It sits under my bed, unloaded and with the barrel disconnected, because really, what the fuck do I have a gun for? I keep a bottle of mace in my nightstand.

Question being, how does one get rid of a gun? I want it destroyed.

2. You can probably ask the police to take it to destroy it.

Since you don't want to sell it, but you could also take a cutting wheel on a grinder to it's various parts and throw the bits away in your garbage.

Or, better to recycle the metal.

Its funny, you buy these things and you don't realize ( at least I didn't, i was a stupid kid) that they never go away and they aren't super easy to get rid of

4. You can turn it in to police, or you can destroy it yourself

With a hacksaw, or a sledge hammer, or a welding torch.

If you do that, please make a video of it and post it on YouTube.

5. I took some 'arms' to a local police station once. I signed a form allowing them to destroy them.

No, I will not define what I mean by 'arms,' whose they were, nor where this was.

7. How does one ensure they are destroyed?

I'm inheriting some weapons from my father, who passed this week. The heirloom hunting rifles I will keep and pass on to my son. They will be kept in a locked gun cabinet, in a locked room. There will be no ammunition in the house. I don't know if my father owns anything semi-automatic or repeating, but if he did, they have fired their last shot. I would prefer to watch them be destroyed.

10. The paperwork was worded as a guarantee. That being said, gun nuts are passing laws in states...

I found a long time ago that if you do something completely off the wall, bad guys leave. Acting like Thor would qualify.

one less gun.

Will the residents of CT react as they did in Colorado after the Aurora theater shooting?
Gun sales went up 41%.

It's much more likely to be stolen or used against you than actually used for home defense.

If someone comes into your house with a gun, knife or club the mace will be of no use.

From there you can cut it into pieces to where you know for sure it'll never be operational again.

45 bucks.
