Ind. man with 47 guns arrested after school threat

CEDAR LAKE, Ind. (AP) -- Authorities say an Indiana man who had 47 guns and ammunition in his home has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill people at an elementary school near his home.

Cedar Lake police were called to the home of 60-year-old Von I. Meyer early Friday after he allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire. A police statement says Meyer also said he would enter Jane Ball Elementary School and "kill as many people as he could."

Authorities found 47 guns and ammunition worth over $100,000.

Prosecutors filed felony intimidation charges against Meyer on Saturday, one day after the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. He is being held without bond.

. . . that there are people out there on the edge of emulating all of that senseless killing. It's unfathomable for the majority of us. Something far, far from our reasoning, I'm afraid.

it might stir up nut cases across the country. I hope the police are vigilant and keep people they know might get worked up under surveillance.

Let's face it as human beings we just don't value life that much. And I cannot think of a shame that is worse than that for a species.

One has to wonder how/why she did not suspect future "problems" as he amassed an arsenal and squandered so much of the family resources for ammunition.

Hoarding is hoarding.. but that said, stacks of old magazines are not as potentially deadly as living with a gun-hoarder who may flip out and start shooting people.

Guns are made to kill..

Many gun-people say they use them for target practice only, but "practice" also implies that the "real thing" is just around the corner, once they have "practiced" enough

and yes I know that occasionally a body is discovered after a stack for something hoarded falls on a person & there's no one around to help them
