Our reporter confirms that mass at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in #Newtown was evacuated.

State police have responded to the church, according to NBC reporter Audrey Washington.

A noon mass was being held at the Roman Catholic Church at 46 Church Hill Road.

Witnesses at the mass said police entered the church and told parishioners that a threat had been made against the church and the surrounding area and that everyone had to leave immediately.

More than a dozen state troopers armed with assault rifles entered a home next to the church, according to Washington.

Parishioners and news media were told to leave the church property.

stuff being spread on social media and that if it doesn't come directly from him, then it is suspect. There was also a warning that some of the social media information could lead to prosecutions. I don't know Zeke Miller or of him and if you don't, I would think twice before posting until you have some official avenue for this info.

NEWTOWN, Connecticut (Reuters) - A Roman Catholic church in Newtown, Connecticut was evacuated on Sunday after a bomb threat was reported by officials during services at the church, which is roughly a mile from the site of Friday's school shooting where 20 children were killed.

State troopers, police and ambulances were on the scene at St. Rose of Lima Catholic church, according to a Reuters eyewitness.

Appears to have been a false alarm.

You'd expect that it would just be some jerk playing with the tragedy. Almost unimaginable that it would be a real threat . . .

So it was real, unfortunately.

I just don't know what is happening to our state anymore. It is a mess. I really can't watch anymore local news today.

It is sad these people can not work toward healing with the peace they need.
