at a time when we need more services to help the mentally ill and to understand what conditions create these monsters and how to treat them we have a party that wants to end all domestic programs, cut drastically health care for just about everyone and give all the extra money to rich billionaires and defense contractors.
When we should be working to expand mental health resources we are on a track to eliminate such services altogether. "Heal thyself" is the mantra for the GOP while arming everyone is their answer.
And if that does not work faith and prayer will take care of the problem. As a society we seem to be as out of touch with reality as the shooters.

(5,178 posts)It's what we do. The ranks of the mentally ill homeless is a travesty and a tragedy that shows us for the selfish, self-absorbed monsters we are.
The cuts will continue and the weakest among us will be left to fend for themselves on the streets of America.

(60,567 posts)There are conditions such as Borderline Personality Disorder and Schizo-Affective Disorder that are very difficult to treat, though in some cases patients' lives can be improved with treatment.
About 80% of depression cases respond well to medication.
Of course any person who refuses treatment cannot be treated, except in rare situations where the law provides for forced treatment.

no they don't.
and as the other poster said, we can't even diagnose 'mental illness' with any consistency.
