The US is #1 in gun ownership but only has 2.97 murders per 100,000 population. Honduras is 88th in gun ownership but has a murder rate of 68.43 per 100,000 population.

Also we're not supposed to point out that murders in countries with tighter gun control still have murders and bombings and suicides, just maybe not with guns.

Looking at the % view, the map doesn't have percentage data for most of the world.

seems awash in gun homicide, with the exception of Canada and Cuba. Central America being the worst if you look at gun homicides per 100,000 people.

You can download a spreadsheet like table that you can sort by different categories. The US is 28th in the world in the homicides by gun per 100,000 and with very few exceptions, everyone ahead of us (worse) is south of us, from Mexico to Argentina.

US is #1 in civilian gun ownership, yet middle of the road for gun related homicides (although 60% are by firearms). I bet most of those are in oakland.
