It felt good to talk to them

this afternoon. They've been busy with pre-holiday stuff. The five year old told me "Grandma, Daddy took me to see the Marvel Comic's Avengers and it was awesome. I still know where the kryptonite is." He's working on his superpowers lately. The six year old told me that she was learning about arrays in school and that she really loves math, and, oh, she was finished with gymnastics and next she wants to try either karate or soccer. The 9 year old has checked out a book on the Bahamas and told me that she may have to questions to ask Grandpa later. The 11 year old just had his first very successful trip to see the middle school he'll attend next year. Best of all, each one signed off with "I love you, grandma."

This grandma had tears streaming down her face the whole time. To hear their voices and share in the excitement of their adventures for a few minutes was priceless. Tears of joy at being able to do so and tears of sorrow for those who will no longer hear the little voices that brought joy to them. Hug your babies. If they they live somewhere else, give them a call. Just do it. Tomorrow I'm going to make other calls--to legislators to make certain that they know it is their job to represent the children too.
