American TV, Movies, Music, and Video Games. Our violent CULTURE is to blame!!!1!

Except...

They watch American movies in the UK.
The listen to American music in France.
They see American TV in Germany.
They play American video games in Japan.

Anybody with the slightest interest in any of these things is well aware that the "culture" produced in America is fairly universal these days, and the local product is often modeled upon the American imports. Sometimes, it's even more violent and misogynistic than ours.

Oh yes, and there are plenty of divorces and single mothers in Scandinavia. And there is political and economic inequality in South Korea. And there is racism in Australia and New Zealand. We do not live in a bubble; things that happen in our country DO in fact happen all over the world.

And yet these countries have not exploded in a rash of spree killings in recent years. Only our country has.

If you want to blame our gun laws, or our mental health care, or our media--bully for you. These are things that we can, in fact, change. But blaming so-called American "culture" just seems like a cop-out, because how can one ever expect to willingly change something as large and all-encompassing as culture--especially when so much of that culture has spread worldwide?

It's like throwing up your hands and saying "Nothing to be done. Best to just put our heads down and prepare for the next one."
