I guarantee that every school system in the U.S.

will start the day with orders to all staff to watch for strangers and any odd happenings around their building. It happens every time there is a school shooting as we brace for copycats. There will be parents who pull their kids out of school and home-school out of fear too. How absurd is it that we play this crap out over and over again.

... my room in the sprawling campus was the farthest from the office complex.

I felt me and my kids were the safest, since the shit usually hits the fan at the office first.

But you are right.... tomorrow will be a tough day.

The copycats will be out....

Yesterday they announced that there will be a district wide meeting tomorrow to discuss security in all buildings. The high school building is pretty secure. There are two state police officers who are already assigned to the building and have been for at least a year or two.

a school system. I retired 2 years ago just as they were installing swipe cards for employees to enter the building, which were locked up tight every single day,all day. It gives people a sense of security, but that's about it. The truth is kids go out on the playground, line up for school in the morning and come and go for drs. appointments. A person with a high powered gun can shoot through windows, open up on a playground or even gain access by killing an employee walking in and taking their swipe card. The problem isn't really school security, the problem is insane shooters with easy access to guns.

We had maybe 6 or 7 buildings spread out over several acres.

Truly securing the place would be close to impossible.
