(5,158 posts)by religious friends and family members. It pisses me off every time. No one took "God" out of schools. If a child wants to pray silently before a test, or a meal, or whatever, they can, as long as they aren't interrupting others or doing it while their teacher is teaching. Also, if a child wants to bring a Bible to read before class or during quiet time I'm sure that would be allowed too. Saying God has been taken out of the schools is bullshit.
What about the shootings that have occurred in churches, and at the Amish school in 2006? I'm sure God and prayer was allowed there.

Talk about not allowing God in ... This is beyond stupid. It's hateful.

(44,173 posts)Students may pray in school. This has always been allowed.
What is not allowed are prayers to be conducted under the auspices of the school, where religious exercises would carry the imprimatur of official state approval.
But I'm sure this dumbass probably didn't learn that at Liberty University or whatever Bible college they attended.

(14,858 posts)It's not just the fundies who think this is true. I think most of them fervently believe that prayer and bible reading is prohibited in public school under all circumstances.

(44,173 posts)Liberal mainliners like me do, but I see your point.
The free exercise clause demands that all be allowed their free practice of faith. And the ACLU has stood up for Christian students in the past when school bureaucrats have tried to stop them from practicing their faith as private individuals.
