We are down to one WW2 vet in Congress

Senator Frank Lautenberg, whose presence in this Senate is a bit of a fluke (he came out of retirement when Torricelli became scandal ridden), is our last remaining WW2 vet in Congress. The last half the 20th century politics was dominated by WW2 veterans for much of the time. Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Bush 41 are all WW2 vets. In addition Carter was at Annapolis during WW2. Speaker Albert, and Speaker Wright were WW2 vets. Senate Majority Leaders Knowland, Dole, Johnson all served. Presuming Lautenberg retries at the end of this Congress, the next one will be the first since at least 1946 with no veteran of WW2 in it. A true end of a very long era.
