Despite a more than generous offer from President Obama, Boehner and the GOP have already rejected the offer, saying the new revenue and the $50 billion in infrastructure spending goes too far. $1.2 trillion in revenue is $1.2 trillion too much for them. If they can't take this deal, what can they take?
I'm about 90% certain we're about to go over the cliff, and considering where the debates are going, that may be a good thing. A quick tax cut bill for those making under $250,000 (or $400,000 at least) could be passed relatively easily in the new Congress once we fly off the cliff.

And even if we do, it won't help. It's tough to put the toothpaste back in the tube: Obama's proposals to cut entitlement will be tough to rescind.

(1,435 posts)and could add tax cut for rich amendment or Boehner could just not bring it up, he decides what comes up for vote.

(39,380 posts)Obama can tell the public he tried to make a deal; Boehner can keep both the baggers under control and his job.

(25,270 posts)PBO makes this concession knowing that Boehner won't be able to accept it. We go over the fiscal cliff. The Repugs get the blame. When the new Congress comes back - PBO sticks it to them with just tax cuts for those making less than $250,000. Repugs will have to go along with that. I'm now for letting us go over the fiscal cliff. The only thing that can screw this up is if Boehner and the Repugs accept this deal that PBO offered.
