Discovery Channel kicks Ted Nugent to the curb

Discovery Channel kicks Ted Nugent to the curb
By Stephen C. Webster

In addition to cancelling its popular “American Guns” reality show, The Discovery Channel confirmed to Raw Story on Tuesday that firearms enthusiast Ted Nugent will also not be returning to the channel in any form or fashion.

Speaking to Raw Story in remarks specified as “not for attribution,” a spokesperson admitted that “Ted Nugent’s Gun Country” didn’t do very well when it aired in October, even with fellow firearms fashionistas.
Nielsen Ratings placed the viewership at about 864,000 people in all. But the network’s decision is not just about the numbers.

After Friday’s devastating massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the spokesperson said that Nugent would definitely not be returning to the Discovery Channel.

Nugent and his allies at the National Rifle Association (NRA) repeatedly claimed that his hour-long Discovery Channel special was actually a planned “series.” The Detroit native and longtime southern rocker even told Armed America Radio listeners in October to “expect that there will be at least a dozen shows a year.” The channel’s spokesperson confirmed that this was never actually in the works.

I mean, seeing Ted Nugent get kicked of Discovery Channel is real nice.
I'm enjoying, too.

But it feels like it's just one of those finger sandwiches...
... just a taste...
... not the same as a full size proper ham and mayo.

Now that I had a taste, I want the full size sandwich.

I want not just Ted Nugent feeling a little sting.

I want to see the NRA and NRA-toadies reduced to hiding in their home safe-rooms in fear of a million moms ripping the steel plates of the room on their way to "greet" them.

Now that's a good sandwich.

cost of the social ailments and other costs they created really began to hit home...like lung cancer and liver disease, etc. They didn't go away, but they are severely regulated and given large penalties and the numbers of partakers are down every year. A DUI can cost up to $10,000 and really screw up someone's employment and life forever. MADD...Mother's Against Drunk Driving was hugely a part of that feat.

Maybe we are socially progressing just a bit to include the social ills of guns ... the comparison of the former pales as to the social costs of the latter. Who can remember the old "Winton tastes good...like a cigarette should." It's a relic, thankfully.

I see hopeful signs of the crumbling at the edges of the Right Wing Nuttery. I know a few and even though they may not have officially changed their views, the re-election of Obama was a mighty powerful social statement and many are at least re-thinking the Tea Party Koolaid.

Next, Rush and Sarah and the airwaves will be a bit cleaner.

UPDATED: Discovery Channel To Cut Climate Change Episode From Groundbreaking Series

November 16, 2011 8:48 am ET by Jocelyn Fong

For the past few weeks, we've had to wait patiently while our friends across the Atlantic enjoy the BBC's seven-part Frozen Planet series on life at the poles, which won't air in the U.S. until the new year.

This sequel to Blue Planet and Planet Earth -- two of the greatest programs to have ever come through my television -- took four years, dozens of cameramen, 28 helicopters and 2 ice-breaking ships to make. The effort has been described by producer Vanessa Berlowitz as perhaps "our last chance to record these astonishing wildernesses that have existed untouched by humans for millennia and that, within a century, may change beyond recognition..."

But they changed their minds, huh?

UPDATE (12/6): AP reports that Discovery has decided to air the full climate change episode! The series will premiere in the U.S. on March 18. Set your DVRs.

I was listening to the highly conservative Gary Noland (sp?) radio show one day when he had "Uncle Ted" as a guest. Nugent bragged about how, down on his West Texas ranch, he and his friends liked to hunt feral swine from a helicopter. He claimed to have used a fully automatic assault weapon to kill the fleeing pigs from the air. How very sportsman-like of him!

Has anybody here called Nugent a crazy asshole yet? They should have, because he is one.

Animal Channel and The History Channel because of cheap reality programming. Our TV line-up seems to be flooded with formulated Jerry Springer T & A and lets see 'who gets thrown-off of the island', shows. Having that idiot Ted Nugent on the Discovery Channel was a new low for a science based station.

A Ted Nugent story, I was at a concert back in the 1980's and Ted came onto the PA system with a backstage interview. He started talking about being a hunter and blowing away animals for sport. People in the audience began to boo. Being at a concert and the audience giving a quarter of their attention to the announcements for this or that, the question started going around, 'Who is this asshole?'

Poor Ted, a day late and a dollar short just did not get his day in the sun with his God giving gun in hand...

Even though he bogged off to Crawford, Texas to have his nose up GWB's arse, he trumpets his Michigan birth every chance he gets. At one time he threatened to run for Governor here. Thank God that didn't happen.

What's to say about a past-it guitar player (and in his day, he WAS good) who hasn't had an album worth mentioning since 1979 (Scream Dream; I don't count Damn Yankees) who spends his fewer and fewer live shows spouting insane bullshit from the stage as much as playing guitar? Hectoring politicians you don't like isn't "entertainment," Ted, and it's taken on an edge of true insanity when you make even vague allusions to harming them. Why do you think the Secret Service paid you a visit?

I served in the USAF/ANG and all your chickenshit ranting about how much you support the troops falls dead on my ears. Your father was a Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army. How did he take it when you dodged Vietnam by pissing and shitting yourself and not bathing before going down to the draft board for your induction physical?

I cannot even stand to listen to your music anymore, and back in the day in the late '70s and early '80s I was a fan of your early albums. A couple of months ago I took them to FYE and traded them in because I cannot listen to them without hearing your omnipresent bullshit.

Chances are that I can shoot at least as well as you can, Ted, having fired everything from a BB gun to a .357 Magnum to an Uzi 9MM and done quite well at all of them.

I'd also be willing to do side-by-side trading licks with you with my little Ibanez and 15-watt Marshall amp up against your Byrdlands and Fender Twins. There's more to playing guitar than cranking it up to the point of pain and playing as many notes as you can.

Ted...retire, and get some mental health help while you're at it.
