Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsObama will define his place in history with this deal he is about to make with the Republicans.
The future will tell the story without political blinders.
He is about to fuck up big time. His decision to put tax cuts for the wealthy above everything, including bribery and extortion. His refusal to stand up to the Republicans at this moment in time will turn out to be his biggest blunder. He will never be stronger politically than he is today.
History will not be kind.

(45,274 posts)I watched Feingold crash, when he absolutely didn't deserve it, because the Obama hopes didn't manifest. Granted--many hoped for more than Obama ever promised, but I'll still go to the polls for a local firebrand (think Grayson, Baldwin, etc.), and while I'm there I will of course vote for the lesser of two well, you know the rest. I campaigned actively for Russ & sent him money as well, but declined the opportunity to phone bank for WI Blue Dogs, even though one of them turned out to be one of the WI 14. I guess I'll be pretty choosy about where put my limited funds and energy in the future too.

(32,139 posts)Is that a lame attempt at a threat, dionysus? You don't like when people criticize policy in this country; that's your own little problem.
Some of the policies coming out of this administration are, indeed, starting to sound a wee bit fascistic, now aren't they? "Kill lists" and indefinite detention without trial, even for American citizens; militarization of domestic police forces and federal targeting of protesters and whistleblowers; surveillance of all phone calls, email and internet activity by Americans without a warrant. Americans, with our "representative" government, have had no say in any of these outrages.
This is what happens when people allow the purchase of government and our electoral system by corporations. We are headed down the road in a very disturbing direction.
