government and its soldiers.
This movie should show how grossly outmatched and outgunned they would be against the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy. Even with all the assault weapons and assault clips that they might have - they would be slaughtered if they decided to orchestrate an "armed revolt".
Maybe a movie like this - that vividly shows such a slaughter - might convince these 'gun nuts' that advocate the 2nd Amendment and 'armed revolt' against their government might scare the 'bejezus' out of them and cause them to think twice about their soldier fantasy.
It could be done either as a very dramatic movie - with all the typical 'david and goliath' movie cliche's - and end up as a real slaughter of the 'gun nuts' - OR - it could be done in a comedic way - and show just how stupid they are for thinking that they could take on the U.S. Armed Forces.
Either way - the point would be made that their 'armed revolt' or 'civil war' fantasy is just that - a fantasy.
Which filmmaker(s) would you like to see do this? the Coen Brothers, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Ronnie Howard or someone I failed to mention here.

(25,253 posts)If that be the case - the movie Red Dawn - doesn't represent - deluded gun nuts - taking up arms against the U.S. Armed Forces. That is the movie I'd like to see be made.

(3,707 posts)...yah right. Unlike in that fantasy, the US military would not need to deal with a supply line that is 4700 miles long (Denver to Moscow).
Also, the 2nd amendment remedy army would be the force fighting on and surrounded by enemy territory.
This, taking on the US government fantasy shows how mentally unbalanced (not reality based) some of the gunners are.

(25,253 posts)such violence is and just how insane these 'gun nuts' are by thinking that they could take on the U.S. Armed Forces.
It seems like this is the only way to get through to people these days - and that is to give them something like a movie - so that it can penetrate all their senses - versus - just talking to them about their folly. Let them see on the 'silver screen' just how insane they are.

(154,021 posts)That supply would be the same problem? I admit, asymmetrical is the only way to take on the evil gub'mint. But serious, most of us speak English and want to remain part of the US. Though I suspect somebody will try once legislation moves forwards.

(154,021 posts)Branch Davidian compound. David Koresh was wielding one of these in news footage. It was a slaughter. Many were kids. It got them foaming at the mouth about government Feds and all that. It gave the militias quite a bit of impetus.

(12,606 posts)If anything is true history has taught us that once an insurrection, conflict or full fledged revolution gets going it is very hard to stop. Sometimes it is impossible.
What you are suggesting is that disgruntled gun advocates (DGAs) are stupid. I'm not one of them. I don't own a firearm of any kind, but things don't usually go as they go in the movies.
One person with a few weapons did horrific carnage to a New England town and ended the dreams of a lot of families. Now multiply that by the number of DGAs that might want to lay down their life and take out a lot of innocent bystanders.
Let's cap the figure at 100 DGAs. Get the picture?
A mall here or school there. A church over there. A Post Office. A city center someplace. The body count would add up quickly. Consider what that would do to the economy alone if it lasted for a while.
Now as I have said I am not a DGA, but I wouldn't expect these guys to try a full frontal assault as in Bull Run/First Manassas. That would be stupid. This is the age of guerrilla warfare. Think of what two guys playing sniper did in three weeks during 2002.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beltway_sniper_attacks
Now consider that some/many of these DGAs are ex military or have some training playing soldier on the weekend. That would be a problem. Some just like to shoot their guns. I would not want to find out what the actual number of those who have some kind of resolve to do real damage and go down fighting.
If it got seriously bad Martial law would be declared and the economy would hit the shitter like it never has before.
Some recent examples of conflicts that didn't go like Hollywood right away.
Chenchnya
Iraq
Afghanistan
So I would forgo the Hollywood bravado. Nothing happens like it does in the movies.
Let's just work on serious gun legislation to make sure we never have to witness another Sandy Hook.

(14,912 posts)..and unleash the fury of the Air Force, Marines and Army on them, or are you going to have the Air Force indiscriminately bombing towns, neighborhoods, etc., while the Army and Marines go around just shooting up towns, neighborhoods, etc.?
Are you familiar with the US Constitution, and know that the military is expressly forbidden to use force on US citizens on US soil?
Do you really even think that the military would take up arms against US citizens. I'm sure some of the right-wing nut jobs would, but there are a LOT of Democrats who are in the military, too. Do you think *they* would shoot at US civilians under the auspices of "just following orders"? Soldiers take an oath to defend the CONSTITUTION against all enemies, both foreign and DOMESTIC. Whoever issued an order for the military to shoot at US citizens/civilians would be considered a DOMESTIC ENEMY OF THE CONSTITUTION!
By the way way... do you know who *else* are members of the military?? GANG MEMBERS, that's who! You have enlistees who belong to the Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings, Aryan Brotherhood, Aryan Nations, Black Separatists,.... you name it, they have members on the inside, all there to learn war tactics... and they range in rank from grunts all the way up to some top brass. You know who else has a lot of active and/or retired military members in their ranks?? 1%er biker gangs, like the Outlaws, Hells Angels, Pagans, Black Pistons... and the Aryan Brotherhood and Aryan Nations, just to name a few.
I don't think you've thought you little blood lust fantasy all the way through to its logical conclusion, have you? If you have, what is the magic number for you? How many lives of innocent men, women and children are you willing to take to before it's too many, just to get a small minority of "gun nuts" who go off the deep end and make the majority of law abiding, legitimate, RESPONSIBLE gun owners look bad?
