The President enables this monster. Just watch Boehner's 50-sec press conference:

This is what you get when you bend over backward to deal with the Repukes: Your back broken.

The most important person in the room, the person who is calling the shots in these negotiations is...John Boehner. He just went on national TV and showed every goddamned American that it doesn't matter that Obama won, or that he won by 5+ million votes: He (Boehner) is still in charge.

You know who's going to keep John Boehner in the driver's seat? Barack Obama, that's who.

He is going to continue negotiating with this fuckface, going to continue to offer up the most core things we as a party hold dear and worth protecting- all to possibly placate this absolute megalomaniac.

Fuck that.

And you know why Boehner is doing this? Because he thinks there's probably a chance that President Obama will do what he wants.

Will he? Is there some part of the Democratic base which hasn't had twine wrapped around its throat that needs to?

What fucking looony insanity. This is the most absurd thing. Fistfights in the Senate floor would be more dignified than watching this led-by-the-nose kowtow play out.

Jump asshole.

And over the cliff we go

Posted by Greg Sargent

John Boehner, at his minute-long appearance before the cameras today:

“Tomorrow, the House will pass legislation to make permanent tax relief for nearly every American — 99.81 percent of the American people. Then the president will have a decision to make. He can call on the Senate Democrats to pass that bill, or he can be responsible for the largest tax increase in American history.”

That appears to be a straightforward threat: If Obama doesn’t agree to raise tax rates only on income over $1 million, we’re going over the cliff. No other choice is offered. It’s one or the other.

...hung around their necks than gutting social programs. Why? Simply put: You can spin the shit out of going over the fiscal cliff. If you tell Democratic voters in 2014 that you raised taxes on the rich and slashed defense spending (as would happen with the sequestration cuts), people will buy it. What's the alternative to excite voters in 2014? "More cuts, tough road ahead"?

This nation elected a majority in the House. The house controls the purse strings in this nation. This means that Boehner is a major player in the ongoing drama whether we like it or not. You know what would change that? Electing a majority Democratic House of Representatives.

Also Boehner is a weak man in a weak spot. No matter what he gets out of Obama, his party in the House can't stand him and is dedicated to seeing Obama fail no matter how much Obama caves. So he can't actually deliver votes, which makes him a terrible person to have across the table in a bargaining position.

Again. Take a fucking civics class. I don't agree with the chained CPI changes. I'd rather we have no deal at all personally.

But to claim that the President enables someone that needs no enabling is absurd. Boehner and the Republicans have legal power. It was given to them by the voters. Deal with it.

Thanks to gerrymandering, MORE people voted for the Democrats to the House, but thanks to Republican gerrymandering, they are HANGING on to a slim majority of only 17. All we need is a 25 defections to the other side, and it will ensure that Democratic Party will be ready to sit down and discuss a fair deal and pass it with ease.

I honestly don't understand why people are so reductive as to collapse all the collective rage we should be feeling about Republican intransigence in the Republican-controlled House onto the person of President Obama. It bespeaks some underlying dislike of this man that goes beyond anything specific that he has done. It's fine to dislike his policies ... but to blame him for what REPUBLICANS are doing is plain crazy.

Boehner could never grandstand like this without the kind of power that he gets from Obama. Democratic leadership wouldn't be begging the Presdent not to put social security on the table, the unions and the Bold Progressives wouldn't be desperately trying to push back against these things if Obama wasn't putting them on the table.

This is not "new". This is exactly the same thing that happened last time in, what, 2009? Obama increasingly puts more and more on the table, infuriating his base and Democratic representatives- only to be turned down by Boehner.

We won.

We should start negotiating from a position of strength and our first position of strength is if the GOP doesn't cut a deal with us on our terms, the sequestration cuts go into effect Jan 1.

With sequestration cuts coming in on Jan 1, we should be negotiating from a position of strength.

But just as an aside, you'd agree that if the President actually gave in to this blackmail- to pass this legislation coming from the House- that that would be beyond the pale, wouldn't it?

Oh well, I guess we’re going the cliff, then. Boehner seems to think he can wave around his tax hike on income over $1 million to insulate Republicans from public blame. (That’s presuming it even passes, which it may not, which would be a disastrous development for the Speaker.)

And with heritage and growth, both, urging republicans to vote down Plan B, it'll not only be curtains for boehner, but the entire gop.

I don't think that this brand of idiocy, crazy half-cocked off-based hatred, and just sheer stupidly misplaced vitriol against a sitting Dem President can even be found at free-republic.

This OP sort of proves that the DU left-wing-tea-party coalition has officially gone off the deep end. It is now very sadly apparent, that both sides of the political extremes have gone so far out there into looney-ville that they have managed to stretch the crazy out to the point that they are holding hands now.

I don't say this very often on internet message boards but...wow. That's just flat out insane.
