My response to suggestion on FB that teachers have guns.

This is an exchange between me and my cousin's daughter-in-law (DIL) whose son is a 1st grader in Arkansas.

DIL: I was thinking…and if it comes down to people voting and what not on teachers being able to keep guns locked in their classrooms…I’m SO for it.

Me: I have a problem with guns locked in classrooms for a couple of reasons:

First, how likely is a scared, shaking, frantic teacher going to be able to open a safe in time? And if he/she doesn’t, he/she will be vilified. I would much rather have teachers focus on teaching and not on para-military training.

Second, take a moment and think back to your school days and remember just how secure the tests teachers locked up were. Yeah, neither were mine.

DIL: lol…good point!

Oh mah gawd man...I get to strut around mah classroom packin' heat! Do I get mah MAN CARD to go with that too?

This idea is worse than the mandatory vaginal probe thing from a year ago...and that's a tough hurdle to clear. Go Virginia!
